Contracts Overview

In addition to traditional grants, Nlets also had the good fortune to recently be awarded a BAA, which stands for Broad Agency Announcement,  by the Department of Homeland Security – Science and Technology Directorate. A BAA is a competitive solicitation procedure used to obtain proposals for basic and applied research. The type of research solicited under a BAA attempts to increase knowledge in science and/or to advance the state of the art as compared to practical applications of knowledge.

Nlets recently competed for, and won, our first BAA. The BAA is actually considered a contract and not a grant. We still manage and perform the BAA work in the same way we do our grants; however, the mechanics are just different. Nlets continues to pass on most of the money to States to directly benefit practioners in the justice and public safety arena. We plan to pursue more BAA contracts, so if your state is interested or you have an idea, contact Nlets.

On the following pages, you will learn more about the specifics of this BAA contract. When it is all said and done, the result of the contracts will improve our law enforcement communities, help catch criminals, and increase officer safety – what Nlets is all about.
